My
Favourite things...with Samantha Dorrance and David Ribi
Ahead
of the arrival of the rockin’ musical, Dreamboats and Petticoats
next week we spoke to its leading lady and man, Samantha Dorrance
and David Ribi, about life on the road and what makes the show so
special to be a part of...
What
is your favourite thing about being part of this production?
Samantha:
I am having
the time of my life. It is such a fun show to be part of with a
real feel good factor. The show is set in the late 50s, early 60s
and gives people a chance to reminisce about their favourite
years. Everyone can relate to something in the show whatever age,
especially those lucky enough to have been around in the era. I
say "lucky enough" because I think I can speak for the
rest of the cast when I say we all wish we could have experienced
such a time. This show gives us the chance to have a taste of what
it would have been like back then and we all love it. So much that
I was even thinking about buying my very own petticoat the other
day! ... I'm not the type of girl who enjoys clubbing, I'd much
rather put my feet up, have a cup of tea and watch a Norman Wisdom
film (haha) The cast make it all even better, I feel so blessed to
be around such lovely people. They're all so good at what they do
and are a great bunch of friends. The show is like one big party!
For you and for us!
David:
It’s
such a fun show, and every night is like a big party on the stage.
There are no boring moments in this production and being able to
have a great time, dancing and singing to great music every night
is the greatest feeling in the world!
What
is your favourite thing about going on tour?
Samantha:
My favourite
thing would have to be seeing different places! I love seeing and
experiencing new things and this way I can. I'm doing a job I love
and I’m traveling the UK and Ireland with lovely people! It's
going to be interesting seeing and playing all the different
theatres and living somewhere different each week. I feel like
having this experience at just 19 will help me grow so much more.
I am a girl who adores her food, so I’m quite looking forward to
finding some nice, new, veggie restaurants and cool places to eat.
A lot of us write and record our own music so I think there will
be a lot of song writing going on. I've also just gotten into
photography so I shall be capturing many a dreamboat moment on our
travels.
David:
It’s
great being on tour because we get to visit so many different and
exciting places. It’s like having a week long holiday in every
major City for 6 months! We get to meet some really interesting
people doing this show as well as it appeals to almost everyone.
Do
you have a favourite thing that you keep with you on tour?
Samantha:
I do
actually! Before we began the show, it was my 19th Birthday and my
little brother bought me a pen with a picture of him on it. I'm
such a family girl; my little brother is like my best friend. I
keep it with me all the time.
David:
Sunglasses
and Swim shorts. Any excuse to jump in a pool or the sea and I’m
there!
What
is your favourite thing about Birmingham Hippodrome?
Samantha:
My
hometown is Wolverhampton and I have seen many shows at the
Hippodrome growing up. I remember going to see shows as a little
girl and wanting to be on that stage and now I am! I feel very
lucky.
David:
I
haven’t been yet, but I’ve heard it’s a beautiful theatre
and I can’t wait to perform there!
What
is your favourite thing about Birmingham?
Samantha:
Where do I
start! The people, my family and most of my friends are from
Wolverhampton/Birmingham. I love the midlands; it's where I know
best... I’m a born and bred Black Country girl and proud... and
it's great for shopping!
David:
Cadburys
world… and the fact that the Brummie accent is one of the best
in the UK!
